The Early Elephant Warning System (EEWS) is an advanced wildlife alert and human–elephant conflict mitigation system designed to provide early detection, rapid warning dissemination, and coordinated ranger response in vulnerable zones such as forest boundaries, agricultural lands, village peripheries, and wildlife corridors.


This upgraded EEWS integrates:
  • 250-meter Long-Range Infrared (IR) Detection Sensors
  • GSM-Based Communication Module
  • Manual SOS Activation Facility
  • Activates a hooter (siren) for audible warning to public
  • Turns ON a high-intensity warning light
  • Sends SMS alerts to pre-registered ranger mobile numbers

The system operates through a hybrid dual-mode mechanism, combining automatic IR-based detection with manual human-triggered activation to ensure maximum reliability and operational flexibility.

2.Automatic IR-Based Early Detection Capability

The 250m IR sensor continuously monitors designated wildlife corridors and boundary zones. When a large moving object (such as an elephant herd) interrupts the infrared beam or triggers motion detection, the signal is immediately transmitted to the microcontroller. The system processes this input and activates:

  • High-decibel hooter siren
  • Flashing high-intensity beacon light
  • SMS notifications to pre-registered ranger numbers
  • Alert reported to centralized dashboard for remote monitoring and preventive actions

This early detection mechanism provides valuable lead time for:

3.Manual Emergency Activation

In addition to automatic sensing, the system supports manual SOS triggering via an authorized ranger call. When a ranger calls the dedicated GSM number:

5. System Working Principle (With 250m IR Sensor Integration)

The Early Elephant Warning System (EEWS) operates in two modes: Automatic Detection Mode using IR Sensors and Manual SOS Activation Mode using GSM communication. This dual-mode operation ensures continuous monitoring and rapid emergency response.

Automatic Detection Mode (IR Sensor-Based Operation)

Two IR sensor units are installed on separate poles at a distance of up to 250 meters, forming an invisible infrared detection beam across the protected zone such as forest boundaries, village entry points, or agricultural fields.


Manual SOS Activation Mode (Ranger-Based Trigger)

In addition to automatic detection, the system also supports manual emergency activation.
